AVATAR

Av-a-tar [av-uh-tahr] - noun

  1. Hindu Mythology, the descent of a deity to the earth in an incarnate form or some manifest shape; the incarnation of a god.
  2. An embodiment or personification of a principle, attitude or view of life
  3. Computer – a graphical image that represents a person, as on the internet

Jake Sulley (Sam Worthington) , Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver)
Trudy Chacon (the Hot Michelle Rodriguez), Norm Spellman (David Moore)

The movie has a simple plot - guy infiltrates a clan, studies them, learns their ways so that he can eventually gain their trust and eventually have a voice in their clan. An evil force generates the conflict and the guy who has suddenly learned the way of the clan has to choose between his own race and his new friends. Now if that is simple, the twists that come with it is what makes the stew tastier.

Neytiri (Played by Zoe Saldana)

The setting takes place in the future in which paraplegic war veteran Jake SUlley is brought to the planet Pandora to replace his borther who was killed in battle. The planet is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race that can be likened to the people of the forest in our country, natives who hunt with swords, bows and arrows. Grace Augustine, a scientist, is played by Sigourney Weaver has studied the Na’vi and has produced an avatar of sorts so that they may look like the Na’vi and eventually make them comfortable with them. Jake finds his way to the Na’vi and is challenged to become one of them.

Jake Sulley's Avatar

The plot thickens when Parker Selfridge (brilliantly played by Giovanni Ribisi) tries to drive the tribe away in order for them to mine the fields of precious materials called unobtanium that can be a fortune per kilo on earth. Colonel Quaritch (Stephjen Lang) is the muscle of the movie who uses brute force to drive the tribe away. The twist comes when Jake becomes one with the clan and falls in love with Neytiri. As mentioned, he has to make a stand as a human or become one with the Na’vi.

Me, my friend Rezyl and my niece Bujoy watched the movie in 3D and were very happy to have done such. We were quiet most of the time, enjoyed the visions, the characters and the visuals. For me, this ranks among the top 5 with regards to imagination which is just like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the rings etc where all members of the cast have their own personalities down to the last detail. The visual magic is a thing of beauty and the animation is excellent. For movie fanatics like me, one will certainly enjoy watching this on the big screen.
