When the going gets tough, the Blue Eagles defense get tougher. Chris Tiu scored on a jumper off a perfectly run play to give the Ateneo Blue Eagles their first taste of the lead and more importantly the marginal basket to beat the UE Red Warriors 65-64 to pocket the Nike Summer League title. The Warriors carried over their momentum of their saturday win against the San Beda Red Lions in the Filoil Tournament as the shooting of James Martinez, Toto Bandaying and Rudy Lingganay was impeccable as the Warriors crushed the Eagles in the first quarter 25-13.
The Blue Eagles had a hard time breaking the UE press and at one time found it hard to break the 2-3 zone of the Warriors. The Eagles scored in spurts but everytime they cut the lead the Warriors would find a way to score and thwart every Blue Eagle uprising. The last 3 minutes showed the kind of defense the Eagles have as they shutdown the Warriors offense and translated it to offense to win the title.
Shown in this picture is one of the future stars of the Ateneo. Once he establishes himself as an Ateneo hero he will be known as Nico Salva Bida!
Two for Tiu in this picture. Chris shows that he is one of College basketball's most feared player as he hit the marginal basket to give the boys from Katipunan the NSL title.
Rabah Al-Husaini savors the moment of winning the NIKE SUMMER LEAGUE 2008. He came to play big against DLSU in the semifinals and also against UE in the finals. As the saying goes. Rabah-dabah-doo!
The one thing that is great is that this is just the preseason.
