Caguisano Jr. hits the baseline jumper
Three graduating players of STI
College Koronadal bid farewell to their STI NBT careers as they played out
their last game of the season but fortunately in good fashion as they beat STI
College Cubao 80 - 52 to end their National Finals campaign on a good note.
Bernard Caguisano Jr., Paolo Soliva and Kenneth Libdan conspired to give STI
College Koronadal their only win in the tournament as they rediscovered their
form and offense as Mindanao champs.
STI College Koronadal used the second
quarter as their springboard to mount a comfortable 19-point lead to end the
first half as the team from South Cotabato punctured the hoops endlessly and
more importantly got back on defense to prevent the new kids on the block a
chance to get this game. The southeners gave the young guns some lessons in
teamwork, good passing and tough defense which STI College Cubao can use to
improve their game.
STI College Cubao leaned on the
triumvirate of Carl Meehleib, Jerico Almenario and Frans Bacalso to lead their
cause. Meehlieb scored 19 points, while Almenario had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1
assist, 3 steals and a block while Bacalso had 10 points, 7 rebounds, an
assist, five steals and two blocks which was obviously not enough to bring the
game to their favour.
Meehleib on the fastbreak
Caguisano on the other hand scored 15
points, pulled down 8 rebounds, had 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks to lead
his team to victory. Soliva had 12 points and 4 rebounds while Libdan, whose
value is the defense he brings to the team contributed 6 points. This is the
fourth year that the South Cotabato team made it to the National Finals and
with the core of their team leaving will be hard pressed to get back again next
year.
