BASKETBALL TEAM
STI College Taft opened the
2016 STI National Basketball Tournament with a 68 – 65 win over a hard fighting
STI College Bacoor team. John Gilbert Amante waxed hot in the first quarter as he buried four three
point shots to single handedly outscored the STI College Bacoor team 14 – 13.
The hot start gave the Manila based Taft team a
nine point lead after one quarter. STI Colllege Bacoor woke up and countered
during the second quarter with Carlo Turla and Gerald Tuiroc combining to cut
down the STI College Taft lead to 31 – 33 at the end of the First half.
In the third quarter, Amante once again carried the fight for the STI
College Taft cagers as he added two more three pointers, scored nine points of
his game high 28 in the third quarter. Tuiroc on the other hand led a balanced
attack by the STI College Bacoor dribblers as they ended they caught up with
the Taft team and ended the third quarter tied 46 – all.
In
the fourth quarter, both teams fought on equal grounds with STI College Taft
leaning on Patrick Mendoza, Abby Bascarra and Karlo Buenviaje. On the other
hand, the Cavite Based Bacoor team had Carlo Turla, Gian Garcia and Joshua
Lloter countering back.

In the end, STI College Taft proved it’s much steadier by overcoming
cramps and a spirited drive by the Bacoor team to eke out the win. Lanz Cielo
eventually sank the insurance basket to give the Manila based Taft squad their
first win.
