STI 25th Anniversary Celebration: Celebrating Silver

The STI Education Services Group always looks to it that its students celebrate each and every foundation day, or anniversary as we would like to call it, with style. August 29, 2008 is the much awaited day for the STI network as all roads led to the CCP complex for various events that made the 25th Anniversary of STI of utmost excitement. Unlike in the previous years various events were inserted to make the anniversary more exciting and to give the STI students other things to enjoy besides watching the usual competitions. There were 16,000 Star City Tickets sold and 13,000 event shirts bought by the schools for their students. That means in attendance alone this event is already a box office hits. Now here is a rundown of the events that transpired during this day.

These two events were held at THE FORUM of the PICC

STI JOB FAIR

Since most of the first year STI students are all enjoying the rides and the shows, fourth year students look ahead as they participate in the STI Job Fair. The event used to be the Global Career Connections Job fair which was usually run during the last week of September to give STI students a chance to pass their resumes to more than 50 companies in one event. This job fair gives a lot of credence to STI’s promise of enrolment to employment to its students.

The job fair was a hit since a lot of graduating STI students lined up to submit their resumes and we are hoping that a lot of them will be hired by Call Center giants like E-Telecare, Convergys and People Support just to mention a few. This Job Fair made it all the mor easy for STI students to be exposed to applying for jobs and having interviews. It someway simulated what they will be doing when they graduate. Good luck to the graduating students of STI, I hope they will be hired by these companies.

STI EXHIBIT

This exhibit houses the legacy of STI. A crack group of STI-ESG employees rocked the home office to be able to dig up to the history of STI and transform the Forum to an exhibit that will show the very colorful history that STI has gone through the past 25 years. I myself am happy that through the eight years that I have been with STI I have contributed thousands of pictures of the various events that I have been with and more importantly contributed to the success of STI. Honestly I had no time to really look at the exhibit which makes me excited to see it on the employee’s anniversary event on September 12. I heard it is something that we will definitely enjoy seeing.

The tandem of Nicole Ayala & Chris-Tsuper of Love Radio 90.7
gamely hosted the STI Idol and Hataw Sayaw Competitions!

These 2 events were held at the STAR THEATRE

STI IDOL

Singing has always been a favorite past time for most Filipinos and STIers too. This competition has given Ms. Pavi de Mayo, 2005 champion the chance of a lifetime by winning and being signed by Alpha Records. Her album Bossa Sessions is still out in the market. She was also one of the judges of this event.

The past saw three females winning consecutively which was broken by Jomelle Vitan of STI College ParaƱaque as seen here with his rendition of Wency COrnejo’s “Hanggang.” Rizza Laguardia of STI College Lipa and Ruby Rose Capanayan of STI College Southwoods won second and third place respectively.

HATAW SAYAW

One of the most anticipated events of the STI Talent search is the Hataw Sayaw dance competition which has reached higher levels in the past five years. One thing nice about this year is that four time Hataw Sayaw champion STI College ParaƱaque did not compete during their cluster level competitions thus giving everyone a chance to become champions. Unfortunately for them, former champion STI College Makati which was represented by the Dance Image reemerged as the winners with their heart stopping performance. The Meycauayan all-Stars on the other hand placed second while STI Laoag’s Exodus garnered the third spot.

SILVER ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
Instead of holding the concert at the Aliw Theatre after the Mr. and Ms. STI Pageant, we decided to hold it at the Activity centre of Star City so that more and more students will be able to watch and enjoy their favorite bands. Six bands performed during the event with Former Narda vocalist’s new band Duster, up and coming band Concrete Sam, one of Muziklaban’s winners - Treadstone, STI favorite Rocksteddy, Aia de Leon’s Imago and one of the multi-awarded bands the Itchyworms.

A lot of faculty and staff were there to support not only their candidates but accompany their students as well since fifty STI schools in Luzon were there with some even coming from as far as Baguio, La Union and Laoag.

These two events were held at the ALIW THEATRE

BATTLE OF THE BANDS

The STI Battle of the Bands is one of the more exciting competitions for STIERs, During the past five stagings of this event no school was able to Lord it over the field which gives all competitors an equal chance to win it all. This year’s winners were STIgma of STI Tagaytay which won the top prize. The Gez Hu band of STI College Caloocan, which was last year’s 2nd placer retained his spot while 2006 Winner, the Barikan Band of STI College Balagtas copped third place.

MR & MS. STI 2008

The culmination of the STI Anniversary has always been the Search for Mr. and Ms. STI 2008. The event is a sort of a search for the STI pair who will be STI’s ambassador and ambassadress respectively. Fifteen gorgeous male candidates and twelve pretty ladies competed in this event which attracted candidates from Cebu, Bacolod and Barotac Viejo in Iloilo. No less than STI President Nick Jacob graced the occasion and talked about the upcoming plans of the STI Education Services group for its students. Carlito Gonzales, a 16 year old freshman from STI College Sta. Cruz was adjudged Mr. STI while another freshman, 17 year old Hazel Cayetano from STI College Ortigas Cainta was crowned Ms. STI.

Add to that the fact that all students enjoyed the new and improved rides of Star City with their ride all you can tickets. With so many things to do in one day I believe that most of the STI Students were exhausted and the one whole day is not enough for them to do all these things. We hope that every year we add to the growing number of events and help make each anniversary more fun and exciting.
