Santa Rosa cagers rout Las PInas 92 -56

STI College Santa Rosa assured its slot in the final four as they slaughtered the STI College Las Pinas 92 – 56 at the second day of the 2016 STI National Basketball Tournament National Finals.  With two wins in two days the Laguna dribblers are now assured of the final four game and is awaiting the result of the other teams.

The Santa Rosa dribblers worked hard right away from the opening tip to the final buzzer as they led the whole game and never let the Las Pinas dribblers threaten them.  Both teams tried to employ their pressure defenses but the experience of the Laguna cagers showed as they attacked their press RJ Guerrero, Kent Fabic, Bryan Ursua and June Aliparo ran rings around the Las Pinas guards. After the ceasefire, the Laguna team was on top in the high scoring first quarter 30 – 19.

In the second quarter, STI College Santa Rosa once again stamped their class over their overmatched opponents by scoring more points and more importantly limiting their opponents to just 12 second quarter points. While the Santa Rosa team shot 56% from the field (10/18), STI College Las Pinas could only sink 5 of the 16 shots given them for a 31% clip. After two quarters STI College Santa Rosa was completely in control of the game 52 – 31.

STI College Santa Rosa coasted in the second half and quelled every rally by the Las Pinas team. June Aliparo once again led the Santa Rosa dribblers with 22 points on 6 of 12 shooting from beyond the arc and he did that all in 18 minutes of playing time and did not even play in the fourth quarter.  STI College Las Pinas was led by the duo of Mark Ruallo and Dalton Balidoy, the two scored 18 and 15 points respectively.  Jon Ursua, Jeric Hercia, Raul Guerrero and Rey Romualdo also scored in double digits for the Laguna team.  STI College Santa Rosa will try to avenge their loss to defending champion STI College Global City in their next game as the Laguna team is aching to win its first STI National title by being on top of the Group A bracket with a win on wednesday.
