Blue Eagles celebrate 9th UAAP Title

Your Bonfire hosts (L-R) Laura Lehman, Bettina Jose, Jhofer Eleria, yours truly, PJ Lanot and Martie Bautista. This year's Bonfire's theme #Blue Eagles Band of Brothers One Big Fight!

Presenting your 2017 - 2018 UAAP Men's Basketball Champions -
The Ateneo Blue Eagles.

First to be interviewed from the players are the graduating Blue Eagles including Team Captain Vince Tolentino, Kris Porter and Chibueze Ikeh.

The crowd and myself egging on Center Kris Porter to give it one more year.

Chibueze Ikeh is very happy that his patience and sacrifice resulted in a title. I told the crowd that since he is one of our best shot blockers we can now call him "Chibog-Easy Ikeh!"

UAAP Season 80 Finals MVP Thirdy Ravena said that his love for the Ateneo made him overcome all the adversities he faced. As I said Agent Zero is definitely a true blue Ateneo hero!

"Matt, is it true na nagkatampuhan kayo ni Mike?" "Nakalimutan mo raw kelan ang Birthday niya?" "Whenever you are with the ball, we have no doubt that you will come out with the best decision for the team" From now on we can call you Walang Duda-Matt!"

"Next year always give Tyler a pass so that it will be called Assist-Tio!"

" When you cover an opponent its as if you are double teaming the person! That's why you should be called Mamu Dinobli!"

Had a blast interviewing former NBA Center Alton Lister who is now one of the Assistant Coaches of the team and is working on the big men.

Kudos to the second team of the Blue Eagles and the future stars of the team.

A message of thanks from Assistant Coach Sandy Arespacochaga whose supporting cast has been developing Blue Eagles for more than a decade.

Another successful hosting of the Ateneo Bonfire. See you next year.

Ateneo UAAP Season 80 1st Semester Champions

The Ateneo Blue Eagles are once again kings of the UAAP! After seeing the BLue Eagles capture their ninth title in the UAAP, the loyal followers of the Hail Mary squad began preparing for another epic celebration the Ateneo way - the Bonfire. This is the first time in the history of the Ateneo that two bonfires are celebrated in a year - the first one of course was last May.

Joining me this time are four Alumni and Martie Bautista who is the current courtside reporter of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. From left that's Jhofer Eleria, PJ LAnot, Bettina Jose and Ateneo's former courtside reporter and now Ms. World-Philippines Laura Lehman.

Fr. Kit Bautista, the Ateneo school Chaplain, started off with a prayer. Fr. Kit asked the Ateneo community to pray for the Blue Eagles at the Alumni homecoming the night before Game 3. He then led the prayer of thanks.

Ateneo University President, Fr. Jet Villarin with another inspirational message to everyone.

The first student-athlete to be feted was Bianca Carlos of the Ateneo Women's Badminton team. Although her team fell short this year, her five years of being undefeated in the Single's division is an accomplishment that gained her so much popularity.

One of the teams that improved by leaps and bounds were the Ateneo Women's Taekwondo team that brought home the silver.

The Ateneo Men's Judo team are back on top but this time they were declared co-Champions with the University of Santo Tomas University.

Being consistent is in the DNA of the Ateneo Women's Swimming team as they are the champions once again in their field.

Not to be outdone are the Ateneo FAST Men's Swimming team that captured the title for the fourth consecutive year. Another four-peat by the Swim Team.

As usual the Bonfire started with another inspirational message from Fr. Jett Villarin

UAAP Season 79 Men's Basketball First Runner-up were called on stage as the Blue Eagle hopefuls gave them a warm round of applause.

Another first runner-up team in UAAP Season 79 were the gorgeous Ateneo Women's Badminton Team.

The Ateneo Women's Fencing team were also feted in the bonfire as they came out first runner-up for Season 79.

The Ateneo Men's Baseball team are back on top after being away for a year! Champs again.

Securing their third consecutive title were the Ateneo Men's Volleyball team who was led by the  MVP Marck Espejo.

The stars of the evening were the Ateneo Men's Football team who was led by a new phenom Jarvey Gayoso.
